Career History

Paul has been a competitive athlete throughout his life. He was a competitive swimmer in his early years competing at county level although he specialised at the short 50m distance and considered 200m to be a long distance race.
In 1999 whilst training to become a Royal Marine, Paul competed in his first triathlon, the Chirk sprint triathlon and was hooked from there, the natural athletic ability became obvious and Paul went on to finish the season as Welsh Junior Olympic distance champion
Paul spent the next 5years serving his country as a Royal Marine commando including tours of Afghanistan and Iraq, representing the Royal Marines and Royal Navy in swimming, cross country and triathlon in between operational tours.
On leaving the Royal Marines in 2005 Paul qualified as a personal trainer and fitness coach and regained his interest in triathlon.
By the end 2007, Paul was crowned Welsh Olympic distance champion, UK amateur national rankings champion and qualified for the Ironman 70.3 middle distance world championships in Florida.
Paul continued to develop as an amateur athlete and began stepping up the distances and was hooked on long distance races after competing in his first Iron distance race in 2008 at the legendary Challenge Roth, finishing in a time of 9hrs 11min beating many of the seasoned Challenge series professionals.
In 2010, as an amateur, Paul won his first major full Iron distance race at the very first Outlaw triathlon, against a top class field of both professionals & amateurs alike. It was following this Paul decided to pursue his dream and gave up his job and become a professional Triathlete in 2011.
Pauls first international Podium quickly followed in 2012 in only his second season as a Professional Athlete finishing 3rd at Ironman UK with a top 10 pro in Ironman Wales finish only weeks later..
Paul has triathlon and fitness running through his veins and has an amazing understanding of his athletes that cannot be taught. Pauls approach to training is to keep it simple, challenging clients both mentally and physically, and believes firmly in quality sessions over quality, maximising every opportunity to train, and removing the wasted miles that would be best spent putting energy elsewhere.
Paul then took a step back from the longer distance racing, and spent between 2013-2016 re focussing on the shorter distance events as to dedicate more time to his coaching business Peaks-performance
Paul plans to return to ironman distance racing again in 2017 with his first target the Bastion followed by ironman Italy in September.
He is also targeting many shorter distance events along with the Peaks-performance team, check out his race schedule for more Info.
